About Dr. Anders Dorbeck
I’m Dr. Anders Dorbeck, registered psychologist in the areas of clinical and rehabilitation psychology (Registration #6614 with the College of Psychologists of Ontario).
Approach to treatment
If you are reading this page, there is a good chance that you are suffering right now. There is help for you to get through it. I take a no-shame approach to whatever you are struggling with, starting with the assumptions that your experiences are valid, and you are capable and ready to make changes in your life.
There is almost always a sensible reason behind any unhelpful or distressing habit or behaviour. Perhaps it served you well in the past, but is no longer working the same way in new circumstances.
My goal in working with you is to understand where you are coming from, put together a treatment approach that is particularly suited to you, and walk with you as you learn new insights, skills, and habits, to get your life going in the direction that you want. In doing this, I aim to find the balance that’s right for you between providing a forum for you to be heard, and providing direction and guidance.
Whether you are looking for relief from distressing thoughts, a way to change patterns of behaviour that just aren’t working for you, increased understanding of your own inner workings, or help to figure out how to take the next steps to enrich and improve your life, these goals are achievable.
Education
I completed an Honours Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto, with a double major in Bioethics and Psychology. After engaging in some additional research projects at Dalhousie University, I attended Memorial University of Newfoundland to complete my Psy.D., a doctorate in clinical psychology. I undertook my pre-doctoral internship with BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services, splitting my time between the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital and outpatient forensic services clinics.
Personal
In my spare time I like to grow vegetables, watch movies with friends, play modern board games, run, play video games, play volleyball, and spend time with my family.
